The anticipation about the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
