Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were alerted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then found multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human blood.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A high-ranking official said the vandalism made him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
